According to Bartel, “Although we have not modeled extensive growth for new innovation in this presentation, we are very pleased to see the introduction of technology like virtual reality and rumored new console launches, some of which seem imminent.” However note that he does not mean a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Two (or whatever it will be called).
Instead if anything, we reckon Bartel is probably referring to the rumors that companies like Sony and Microsoft are planning hardware refreshes of their existing consoles. For example a recent FCC filing indicated that we could be looking at a slimmer Xbox One, while there have also been reports that Sony could be working on a slightly more powerful PS4 capable of handling 4K gaming.
Let’s not forget that Nintendo themselves have confirmed that they have a new console in the works and while no release date has been specified, chances are we might be looking at an E3 announcement, or possibly even earlier. So if you haven’t gotten yourself one of these new fangled consoles yet, maybe you might want to hold off on doing so for now.
