Mojang has confirmed today that it’s working on Minecraft Realms for Minecraft: Pocket Edition and the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. If you don’t know, Minecraft Realms makes it easy to play the game with friends and family. Realms worlds are always online and can only be accessed by an approved group of people. That’s really why fans were asking Mojang to expand it to other platforms and it’s doing just that.
The best part is that Minecraft Realms supports cross-platform play between iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows 10 editions of Minecraft so players don’t have to be on the same platform to enjoy group play. Mojang is making this possible by using Xbox Live logins which can easily be created for free.
I should mention here that Realms is not going to be free, and that makes sense, because Mojang has to keep the servers running around the clock to ensure that the worlds are always accessible at all times. Minecraft Realms is a paid service, however, Mojang isn’t ready to share the pricing plan just yet, but it does confirm that gamers won’t require a Xbox Live Gold subscription to use this service.
Mojang has launched a free alpha of Minecraft Realms for Android, those who would like to test it out should have purchased a copy of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, they can opt in here. An Xbox Live account is required to take part in the alpha.
