Nintendo’s Miitomo mobile game was a bit of a dark horse going in. Many were skeptical, but yet the “game” turned out to be surprisingly fun and addictive. In fact many would agree as in the first 3 days, the game managed to net 1 million users. After that the stats were a bit hazy as Nintendo did not reveal anything after that.
This has led to third-parties speculating that we could be looking at 4 million players and this was earlier this month, but as it turns out they were pretty off-base. Announced during Nintendo’s recent earnings call, the company revealed that Miitomo actually plays home to more than 10 million unique users around the world.
We guess the term “unique” is important because this means that there are literally 10 million people around the world who are playing the game. This is versus terms like “accounts” which could suggest that there are people who might have signed up for multiple accounts, thus falsely inflating the numbers.
Either way it does go to show that despite the game being met with skeptism at the start, the sheer volume of players has certainly silenced its critics. Now we just have to wait and see if Nintendo’s other mobile efforts will be just as successful.
