Just how far does your passion bring you? Of course, when you couple that with the right amount of money, it can have quite the amount of mileage, that is for sure. Hong Kong product and graphic designer Ricky Ma has dropped more than $50,000 to realize his childhood dream of building a life-size robot from nothing right in the comfort of his own home.
This is certainly a mini miracle of sorts, where 3D printing technology certainly helped his cause as approximately 70% of its body was made thanks to such tech. The female robot prototype (no surprise here) has been given the nickname Mark 1, and can you see the certain resemblance of the robot’s face compared to the rich and famous in Hollywood?
Mark 1 is capable of responding to a set of programmed verbal commands that have been spoken into a microphone. Ma shared, “I figured I should just do it when the timing is right and realize my dream. If I realize my dream, I will have no regrets in life.”
Detailed facial expressions are not out of reach of Mark 1, and all of it is because Ma decided to adopt a trial-and-error method in the building process. He now hopes that an investor would purchase this prototype so that he can have the capital to come up with newer models, in addition to documenting his experience on a tome for inspiration to other enthusiasts. I certainly don’t mind such a robot serving me in restaurants!
