A lot of modern smartphones these days come with increasingly complex parts, meaning that trying to get it fixed might be harder than you think. However the good news is that if you were eyeing the LG G5, you might be interested to learn that a recent teardown by the folks at iFixit have found that the phone is pretty easy to repair.
In fact iFixit has given the LG G5 an 8 out of 10 in terms of repairability, a score considerably higher than that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 which scored 3 out of 10. It also puts it above the iPhone 6s which scored 7 out of 10. According to iFixit, one of the advantages is the phone’s modularity which makes swapping out the battery a breeze.
They also found that not much glue or screws were used, meaning that opening up the phone proved to be relatively easy. Screws that were used are also standard Philips #00 screws, versus Apple’s iPhone which uses more proprietary designs, meaning that you won’t need to send your phone into an LG specialist just to get your LG G5 fixed.
The only downside here is that the LG G5’s display assembly has been fused together, so the entire module needs to be replaced if anything goes wrong, which in turn could increase the cost of the repairs.
