Update: Based on our source, it does seem as though Apple’s iPhone SE came first, although a reader did point out that LG applied for the trademark in February.
In what looks to be an idea that Apple had already implemented, LG of South Korea also looks to the SE suffix in one of their handsets that will carry the flagship name along with it. Basically, it seems that LG has already applied for the trademark of the name G5 SE over in South Korea, its home country, which means there is at least one company elsewhere that thinks the SE suffix is worthy to be part of the branding process. You know what they say – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, however Apple is probably not going to be too amused should LG roll out a LG G5 SE one of these days.
Do take into consideration that having a trademark does not necessarily mean that it will eventually be used, as they could just be holding it for an indefinite period of time. Of course, chances are that happening otherwise, as why bother to trademark something if you do not have any kind of intention to utilize it? Hopefully LG will not take Apple’s route should the LG G5 SE be released, that is, it will come with a smaller display and will offer less than stellar performance compared to its flagship model.
Heck, even the logo had already been created just for the trademark filing that involves the LG G5 SE, and it is as serious as it gets. As with all rumors, we would need to fall back on patience and the passage of time to see whether it comes to fruition or not eventually.
