Last month Apple officially launched their latest iPhone, the iPhone SE which was basically a 4-inch iPhone that packed similar-ish specs as the iPhone 6s, except in an obviously smaller body with a design reminiscent of the iPhone 5s. That being said in terms of durability, how does the iPhone SE hold up?
Thanks to the folks at SquareTrade (via MacRumors), they have decided to put the phone through its paces and have subjected it to a torture test. The iPhone SE was bent, dropped, tumbled around, and dunked underwater. It was also compared against Apple’s newer iPhones to see how well it held up against them.
Unfortunately in terms of durability, the iPhone SE does not come close to that of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. For example in terms of bending, the iPhone SE bent under 160 pounds of pressure, versus the iPhone 6s which bent under 170 pounds. The iPhone SE also reached catastrophic failure at 178 pounds, while the iPhone 6s Plus only started to bend under that pressure.
The underwater test also found that under 5 feet of water, the iPhone SE shut down under less a minute, while the iPhone 6s survived a full 30 minutes and only lost audio capabilities as a result. Now obviously it isn’t a completely fair comparison since they are of different designs, but if you do plan on getting it, perhaps you’ll want to be a bit more careful with it.
