In lucrative markets like China, there’s a very strong competition that Apple faces particularly in the low-end and mid-range of the market. Since Apple doesn’t really target the low-end market it won’t be that considered about sub-$100 Android smartphones however it does appear to be trying to get more marketshare in the mid-range segment. It recently launched the iPhone SE for that purpose and if reports are believed the new phone is doing just what the company wanted it to.

According to a report, the iPhone SE is stealing customers from some of China’s biggest local smartphone makers, it’s claimed that Huawei, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo have all lost marketshare in China as the iPhone SE is gaining ground rapidly.

China is already one of Apple’s most profitable markets. The iPhone is an established brand there and the fact that the iPhone SE is cheaper than the iPhone 6s Plus it allows more people to enter the iOS ecosystem without having to pay a very high cost.

So it’s not that hard to see why local OEMs that are active in the mid-range segment might be feeling the pinch. Those who couldn’t affordable an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus might have enough range to pick up an iPhone SE, or those who are in the market for their first smartphone might go with the new smaller and cheaper iPhone.
