Ever since Instagram was released, the app’s choice of colors have been somewhat the same, with that odd splash of blue here and there, although over the years the overall app’s design has undergone a bit of a transformation. However it looks like Instagram is testing out a new design that is a drastic departure from what users have expected.
According to a report from The Verge, it seems that they were sent in some screenshots from tipster Anton Abramov who revealed that the company was trying out a completely monochrome design. As you can see from the screenshots above, the entire app is black and white save for a pop of color.
Presumably the idea is help photos stand out in the app without the app’s UI and colors distracting, and we have to say that it seems to be doing a rather fine job. Now if you’re wondering how real these screenshots are, you can rest assured knowing that they are the real deal. Instagram has confirmed to The Verge that the screenshots and design are actually taking place.
However if you love it/hate it, don’t get too attached yet because according to Instagram, it’s not a guarantee that this design will be used. According to an Instagram spokesman, “We often test new experiences with a small percentage of the global community. This is a design test only.” Pity, because we kind of like it.
