However given that virtual reality is now becoming more mainstream, the folks at IKEA have decided to hop on board the bandwagon and have created the IKEA VR Experience. Basically this is a pilot program in which users will be able to tour kitchens in virtual reality, interact with objects, change the color of the furniture, and so on, thus giving you an idea of what you kitchen would look like when it is complete.
According to Martin Enthed, the IT Manager for IKEA Communications, “We also see IKEA VR Experience as an opportunity to co-create with people all around the world. We hope that users will contribute to our virtual reality development, by submitting ideas on how to use virtual reality and how to improve the virtual kitchen.”
Unfortunately this pilot program is only valid until August and is only available for the HTC Vive, but presumably if this feature is popular, IKEA could make it a permanent feature and expand to other devices. For now those with the HTC Vive headset can check out the IKEA VR Experience by downloading the app on Steam.
