The company has announced that they are launching the Vive X, and no, this is not the successor to the HTC Vive or a variant of it, but rather the Vive X is a global accelerator program for virtual reality technology. It will be aimed at startups who are operating in the virtual reality space and is a $100 million investment fund that is being led by HTC themselves.
Vive X will be available in Beijing, Taipei, and San Francisco, and according to HTC, “Vive X offers start-ups the opportunity to be based in one of those cities for an initial growth period, during which they will have access to funding, leading VR know-how, hands-on coaching, and office space. They will also be invited to demo days, where leading investors will be in attendance, and to HTC’s offices for intensive training with our first-party development studios and to meet key members of the Vive engineering and management teams.”
It is a good idea by the company because while VR tech is pretty exciting and fun, there seems to be a lack of content for it at the moment (although they are being developed as we speak), so hopefully this accelerator program will help churn out more content and encourage developers to hop onboard the VR bandwagon.
