Great news for everybody who pre-ordered the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. The company has finally started shipping headsets to customers today. The release comes almost two weeks after Oculus started sending out the very first consumer units of the Rift VR headset. After facing some issues with payment processing for pre-orders HTC appears to have worked out the kinks and is now sending out units to its customers.
HTC did acknowledge the payment processing issue and told customers not to worry as it sorted out the problem and promised that it would send out the units based on the position in the pre-order queue.
It wasn’t alone in facing issues prior to shipping its first VR headset. Oculus is having to deal with an unexpected component shortage that’s delaying shipment for a lot of customers, Oculus is waiving shipping and handling fees for customers as compensation.
HTC started taking pre-orders for the Vive virtual reality headset in February this year and said that it was looking to start shipping units by early April. Despite the issues, it has been able to meet that target.
HTC Vive is priced at $799, units include the headset, a pair of wireless controllers and two location sensors. It might be a very expensive option right now but none of the major VR headsets ship with the peripherals that it comes with, then again, you get what you pay for.
