According to Blass, it seems that HTC has two Nexus handsets in the works for 2016 and that they have been given the codenames M1 and S1, which according to Android Police are actually in reference to “Marlin” and “Sailfish”. Given both sources have been pretty accurate with their leaks and rumors, it sounds like it could be a possibility.
Now HTC has been rumored to be pegged as the company to build the Nexus handsets in 2016, and earlier last month we heard that at least one of HTC’s Nexus handsets could feature 3D Touch-like functionality. There are also rumors that HTC could be in the running to build Google’s Nexus handsets for the next 3 years.
This is somewhat unprecedented as Google has typically opened the doors to any OEM who makes the right bid. That being said, HTC does have some history with Google as they did build the first Nexus handset, not to mention they were also involved in the Nexus 9 tablet. In any case take it with a grain of salt, but with the HTC 10 proving itself to be a promising device, we are excited to see what kind of Nexus phones HTC could come up with.
