HTC’s latest flagship handset appears to be a very good update over its predecessor. The HTC 10 was unveiled a few hours ago and initial impressions appear to be going in favor of the handset. One new feature that the smartphone supports is Apple AirPlay. It’s actually the first Android smartphone to have support for AirPlay straight out of the box.
What this means is that the HTC 10 is capable of playing audio wirelessly through devices and speakers that support streaming via Apple AirPlay. As previously mentioned, this makes the HTC 10 the first Android smartphone to have support for Apple’s audio and video streaming standard.
Since AirPlay is supported, the HTC 10 is even capable of directly streaming to the new Apple TV. “We are platform agnostic,” said Darren Sng, HTC’s vice president of product marketing as he explained the decision to support AirPlay. He also mentioned that the company won’t shy away from embracing other technologies like Cupertino’s Apple Pay and Samsung’s mobile payments service if the companies behind them decided to offer them to other manufacturers.
HTC has already started taking pre-orders for the HTC 10 on its website, the unlocked version costs $699 and will be shipped next month. Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint have all confirmed that they will soon start selling this handset though nobody has confirmed pricing or release date just yet. AT&T is not going to sell the HTC 10.
