If you have got an Android TV device hooked up to your TV, you probably get an earful from the people in your family that don’t own an Android device because until today they were not able to control the Android TV unit with their smartphones. Google has fixed this problem today by releasing an official Android TV remote app on the App Store, the app enables all iOS users to control an Android TV device using their iPhone or iPad.

The app has obviously been available for Android devices for a very long time, so it’s very easy for a household that only has Android devices to control units like the Nexus Player or a Shield TV.

Folks who didn’t have an Android device were out of luck since there was no way that they could control those units with an iPhone, but now they can, thanks to this free app that Google has released today.

The official Android TV remote app for iOS looks very similar to its Android counterpart and it works in a similar manner. Users need to have their iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi network as the Android TV device for this to work.

Once a connection has been established, the TV can be controlled using the D-pad or touchpad. The app also offers a keyboard and the ability to give voice commands to the Android TV device.
