For those of you who have been long time fans and admirers of the Ghost in the Shell series, then you would surely know that this is one innovative cartoon that broke through many barriers and raised a fair number of questions along the way. If the anime itself got you thinking and wondering whether you would one day down the road be able to watch a Ghost in the Shell VR movie on your smartphone, well, sad to break it to you but it is true – that is unlikely to happen anytime in the near future.
According to Production IG, Virtual Reality Diver will only be shown in 31 internet cafés across the Kanto region in Japan – and that would be Tokyo, Yokohama as well as other areas which are close by later this May. Not only that, it is said to have ended up as too large and ambitious to be released as a mobile app, hence not being able to watch it on your smartphone.
This could be due to the rather lengthy 15 minute reel (relatively speaking, of course), as a 360-degree clip of such length will surely take up a whole lot of storage space. Production IG has also promised that Virtual Reality Diver will arrive on the PlayStation VR, which would be one of the methods in which you can enjoy it in your living room – assuming you live in Japan, that is, as there is no word on whether it will be available outside of Japan as at press time.
