Wrong. According to a report from Variety, Game of Thrones could be ending a lot sooner than we think. In an interview with the publication, the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said that once season 6 is over, they are estimating at least 13 more episodes being everything is wrapped up for good.
This means that season 7 and 8 will (obviously) contain less than 10 episodes each! However note that nothing is set in stone yet as apparently this is still in the early stages of planning. According to Benioff, “I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap. That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.”
Season 6 of Game of Thrones will be officially the first season that does not draw material from the books, simply because George R.R. Martin has not written that far yet. However previously it was stated the author had told the showrunners what he had planned for the ending of the books, so we have to wonder if they might incorporate it into the show’s final season which could potentially spoil it for book fans.
