Earlier this year, the Fujifilm X-Pro2 was announced and if the rumors are correct, the Fujifilm X-T2 is expected to be announced after it. In fact last we heard, the camera was on track for an announcement in June, but a new report from Fuji Rumors has suggested that it could be announced in July instead.
According to the report which cites a source that has been right in the past, the Fujifilm X-T2 could still be announced in June, but it will be towards the end of the month. Alternatively it could also be in early July as Fujifilm has reportedly not locked down the dates yet, but for now it seems that these dates are the ones that we can expect for now.
So why aren’t the dates locked in yet? Interestingly enough, the source claims that this has largely to do with the sales of the Fujifilm X-Pro2. Apparently Fujifilm’s latest camera has been selling really well and the company is worried that introducing the X-T2 earlier could have a negative impact on the sales of the X-Pro2.
The X-Pro series has typically been more expensive than the X-T series, so it is understandable that when given the option, some photographers might opt for the cheaper model. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but it seems that a mid-year launch is still pretty much what the rumors are saying, so hopefully we will get some kind of confirmation in the coming months.
