Avatar hit the big screen back in 2009 and it was one of the biggest movies that came out in that year and has since been one of the most popular movies ever made by Hollywood. Late last year director James Cameron confirmed that he was locked in for multiple sequels and he also confirmed that the sequels will enter production in 2016. Cameron has now shed more light on the Avatar sequels that are currently in the pipeline.
It was previously expected that Cameron was working on three Avatar sequels, but the veteran director confirmed at CinemaCon that he’s actually working on four sequels to the original Avatar movie and that the first one is going to be released in 2018.
He also revealed some of the ways in which he’s expanding the Avatar world. A theme park with Disney is on the table and a deal has already been signed for Avatar graphic novels.
Cameron has revealed that the first Avatar sequel will be out in the holiday season 2018 and that subsequent sequels will be released in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
He didn’t reveal any details about what storyline the first sequel is going to take and if any new characters are going to be introduced to the franchise. That information may not be made public until next year at the very least.
