It was confirmed last month by Microsoft that the Fable Legends release was cancelled and Lionhead, the studio working on this game, was being shut down. While rumors circulate about the future of this game, nothing has been confirmed as yet with regards to its revival, the game has taken a big step towards the end today. It has been shut down officially.

Fable Legends has been in beta for some time now but today the game’s servers for beta testers have also been taken offline. Players have not been able to purchase in-game currency since last month and those who did and never got around to spending all of it can now claim a refund from Microsoft.

The procedure to claim a refund has been mentioned on the Lionhead Forums. The developer has said in a statement that “All stories have to end eventually, but the memories of Heroic triumphs and Villainous plots will last forever. Thank you for your support–you are all Legends!”

About a week ago it was reported that there might be hope yet for Fable Legends, that it might not be cancelled and that development could continue. A representative for Microsoft tells GameSpot that there are no additional details to share about Fable Legends beyond the closure of the servers and that they have ceased development on Fable Legends, and they are in discussions with employees at Lionhead about the proposed closure of the studio.
