Microsoft confirmed last month that it was cancelling the Fable Legends release and it even hinted at the possibility of the studio behind this title, Lionhead, being shut down. The company confirmed the changes it was making to internal development studios and Fable Legends was the first casualty. A new report has surfaced which claims that Fable Legends might not be cancelled after all and that development might continue.
MCV reports, citing sources at the studio, that discussions are taking place on saving this free-to-play RPG. Apparently no offers have been received as yet for the game or the studio but the staff are being asked if they would like to continue working on Fable Legends or if they would rather accept the redundancy package offered to them and leave by the end of this month.
Fable Legends was announced back in 2013 and an open beta was expected to arrive this spring. The game was destined to arrive for free on Xbox One and even the PlayStation 4 with both console owners being able to compete against each other.
One of the sources mentioned in the report also claims that Microsoft could allow team members to continue work on Fable Legends as an independent studio. There has been no response from Microsoft to any of this yet.
