Phillip’s new owner, Vicki Rabe-Harrison, did not have the heart to see Phillip waddle about while struggling, so she decided to contact Jason Jischke at South Park Middle School. Jischke apparently is in a classroom that has a 3D printer, and this would be just the right device for Phillip to obtain a new pair of flippers.
Taking half a dozen weeks of trial and error before Jischke managed to model the perfect flippers for Phillip, it is a commendable effort for sure. This was achieved through the semi-flexible material known as “ninja flex”, where the final prosthetic legs required close to one and a half days to complete in the 3D printer. Phillip should require some time to “break in” to the new flippers, but once done, it should be able to take to it like a duck to water – pun not intended.
