While having a good storyline and gameplay is important in video games, these days gamers are always on the lookout for new ways to challenge themselves, what with playing games using non-standard controllers, playing games blindfolded, and etc. Developers have also helped by introducing difficulty modes meant to push players to the limit.
That being said, it has been revealed that DOOM will come with an extra difficult mode called Ultra-Nightmare that comes with a permadeath feature, meaning that once your character dies, it’s back to the starting line for you. Speaking with the folks at IGN, the game’s developers at id Software revealed that the mode is so hard that no one in the company has managed to beat it yet.
Right now there appears to be some kind of competition going on at id Software’s office where developers are trying to see if they can go further than their friends, but they note that to date, no one has come close to actually beating the game at its highest difficulty. Of course we expect that once the game has been released, we’ll be seeing gamers around the world attempt the feat themselves, so we can’t wait to see who finally clears it.
In the meantime IGN has suggested that since the only difference between Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare is the permadeath feature, you can always practice on Nightmare mode first to get the hang of things before progressing. DOOM is currently set for a release on the 13th of May where it will arrive on the PC, Xbox One, and the PS4.
