A couple of years ago in 2014, we covered a rather novel invention called the Coolest Cooler. At its heart it is a cooler, but it also comes with several features like a blender, a pair of speakers, and even a charger that lets you charge your phone while you are out and about. Turns out that novelty was what people were after as the project managed to raise more than $10 million.
Unfortunately the project which was a Kickstarter darling back then has since fallen on hard times, and it looks like the company behind the project is now asking its backers for more money. According to reports, the company is now asking its backers for an extra $97 for “expedited” shipping for their orders.
This brings the total that customers spent to $282, which as its CEO Ryan Grepper points out, is still cheaper than the $399 price tag that they are asking for on Amazon. Now note that this $97 isn’t mandatory as Grepper has promised that the company will eventually get every order to their customers, but for those who’d rather not wait around, we guess you’ll just have to pony up the $97.
Grepper says that “as long as there is breath in my body we are committed to getting each and every backer their Coolest Cooler.” This will be achieved by using the profits that they make from their Amazon sales. In any case we suppose if anything this just serves to highlight some of the risks one takes when backing crowdfunded projects.
