Apple Website Hints That OS X Could Be Renamed To MacOS

OS X has been the name Apple has used for its operating system for awhile now, but it seems that Apple could be getting ready to move on to a different name. We’ve already seen how Apple’s naming system works as of late, like watchOS for the Apple Watch, and tvOS for the Apple TV.

That being said, it has recently been noted on Apple’s environmental website that Apple has since made reference to a “MacOS”, which given its name would seem to apply to Apple’s Mac computers. Like we said, OS X is the name used to refer to the operating system on Apple’s computer systems, so with the reference to MacOS, it could indicate that Apple might be interested in changing its name.

According to the website, “To model customer use, we measure the power consumed by a product while it is running in a simulated scenario. Daily usage patterns are specific to each product and are a mixture of actual and modeled customer use data. Years of use, which are based on first owners, are assumed to be four years for MacOS and tvOS devices and three years for iOS and watchOS devices.”

Now we’re not sure if Apple is just using the name to encapsulate all Mac products ever made, or if this is a sign of change. Either way if there are changes, chances are Apple will reveal more details come WWDC 2016 which will be taking place in the middle of the year.
