However it seems that Apple could be thinking of breaking the trend. According to a report from Fortune, they have gotten a note from investors from Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz who suggests that Apple could skip the iPhone 7s in 2017 in favor of the iPhone 8. Now this is more than just a change in naming scheme as the iPhone 8 will be a major upgrade.
In fact Moskowitz suggests that this year’s iPhone 7 won’t be part of Apple’s mega cycle update (like the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and etc.). Instead the iPhone 7 could be seen as more of a replacement device rather than a “must have”. That being said, Moskowitz’s claims aren’t entirely without merit.
So far the rumors of the iPhone 7 haven’t been particularly exciting. In fact the more exciting rumors seem to be about next year’s rumored iPhone, in which we could be looking at an AMOLED display and an “all glass” enclosure. Moskowitz even goes on to claim that Apple will be (finally) dropping the home button and include wireless charging.
Of course all of this is based on the opinion and predictions of one analyst which should hardly be taken as gospel, but assuming that is true, how many of you guys would still be willing to upgrade to the iPhone 7 this year?
