However according to a new report, it seems that those talks have since fallen apart meaning that BMW and Daimler are reportedly no longer in the running to help Apple with the Apple Car. The talks apparently fell apart last year for BMW, and more recently for Daimler, with report claiming that this was due to leadership and ownership.
According to the report, “Apple wants the car to be closely built into its own cloud software, while the German carmakers have made customer data protection a key element of their future strategy.“ That being said, not all is lost. Apparently Apple has since visited Austria to speak with Magna Steyr as another possible candidate.
What exactly will come of this remains to be seen. That being said, it sounds like the rumored Apple Car is certainly well on its way, with reports claiming that Apple has been buying/leasing various buildings to aid in the vehicle’s development.
