The good news is that that number appears to have increased since then. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Game of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed that they expect that there will be about 10-15 hours left in the show, and given that each episode runs for about an hour, that basically translates to 10-15 episodes (we’re hoping it goes 15).
Benioff and Weiss also clarified that they are in no means cutting the show short or walking away from it, but rather the fact that this is what they’ve always imagined it to be. “We’re not walking away. We’re approaching the finish line. From the outset, our hope was to tell a complete story — beginning, middle and end. We are writing the final act now, and the last thing we want to do is stay on stage after the play is over.”
We suppose all good things must come to an end. That being said, season 7 of Game of Thrones has since been greenlit and season 6, where hopefully we’ll find out the fate of Jon Snow, is due for a premiere come 24th April, 2016.
