Microsoft has made Windows Phone 8.1 owners wait for a considerably long time to get their hands on Windows 10 Mobile. This update was supposed to be released in December but the company couldn’t meet the deadline. It then promised to have this update out by March 2016 and it has followed through on that promise. Microsoft has released Windows 10 Mobile today for existing Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.
Microsoft has also confirmed the current list of Windows Phone 8.1 devices which are supported for the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile. It cautions that the list includes a limited set of WP8.1 devices and doesn’t include some devices which are currently running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program.
Initially, the company is supported the Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 with 1GB RAM, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and the Lumia 930.
Windows 10 Mobile brings several new features for existing Windows Phone 8.1 handsets. Features like Windows Hello, Continuum, improved Cortana are onboard aside from major updates to native applications.
Microsoft has started the rollout today but users should bear in mind that carriers come into play as well. They might not get the update until their carrier makes it available for devices. The company has developed an upgrade advisor app which will tell the user if Windows 10 Mobile update is ready for their handset. The app is now live in the Windows Store.
