Windows 10 Estimated To Account For Nearly 13% Of Desktop Market

In January 2016, it was estimated that Windows 10 accounted for almost 10% of the desktop market. Given that Windows 10 is not even a year old, that is very impressive adoption figures indeed. Now according to the latest numbers from Net Market Share, it seems that in the span of two months, Windows 10’s market share has grown to nearly 13%.

To be more specific, Windows 10 now accounts for 12.82% of the desktop market, a number which we imagine will be able to hit 13% in no time. In the meantime, Windows 7 appears to continue to command the lion’s share of the market at 52.34%. Apple’s OS X platform is sitting at close to 6%, while Windows 8 and 8.1 share a total of a little over 12%.

Windows XP is still alive and well at 11.24%, but considering that support has come to an end, we expect that those numbers should be declining pretty quickly. That being said, we can only assume that Windows 10’s adoption is helped by the fact that it is made free to users in the first year as long as they own an original copy of an older build of Windows.

Microsoft has also been pretty aggressive with Windows 10 and has recently changed the status of the update to “recommended” for Windows 7 and 8.1 users. It will be interesting to see the pace of adoption once the free period ends.
