Samsung-Pay

Update – Verizon has confirmed that they have not blocked or dropped support for Samsung Pay, and that it will be available on the 11th of March.

Last year it was initially reported that Samsung Pay would not be supported by Verizon. However a couple of months later, the carrier had a change of heart and announced their support for Samsung’s mobile payment service. Oddly enough it looks like support has since disappeared for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

According to a report from Reddit, it seems that Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge owners who bought their phone from Verizon have discovered that the app does not come preloaded on the phone, meaning that it looks like for now, Verizon might have suspended support for the service. However the good news is that not all is lost as users can easily sideload the app if they wish to use it.

Now it is unclear as to why the app is missing. Neither Verizon nor Samsung have said anything, so for all we know it could be a glitch. A report from Android Police has suggested that the app could become available for download on the 11th of March which is when the phones will officially go up for sale.

Apparently this is to coincide with a new Samsung Pay promotion. We’ve seen various promos in the past like getting rebates and free wireless chargers, so perhaps there might be some truth there. In any case we guess we’ll hold off our judgement until the 11th of March and see if Samsung Pay will become available then.
