Super Evil Megacorp, the developer of Vainglory, has struck up a partnership alongside Amazon’s livestreaming platform Twitch, and this is part of an effort to transform the Vainglory mobile game into something more glamorous – into the realm of electronic sports, or e-sport for short.
The collaboration between Twitch and Super Evil Megacorp will be one that lasts for three years, and it will happen in North America as well as Europe in order to form the official Vainglory Championships and support esports programs.
Just to recap, Vainglory happens to be a mobile-based multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game which has managed to gather an audience of spectators and professional players, of whom will compete in seasonal tournaments. It will be “powered”, so to speak, on revenue streams from tournaments and sponsorships, and e-sports is tipped to explode by 43% to $463 million this year alone, surpassing the $1 billion mark three years down the road, according to market researcher Newzoo. So, will this particular partnership be able to be beneficial to both parties? Perhaps, and for someone to make a living playing Vainglory, that is the ultimate goal. I am not quite sure what parents have to say about their children who bid adieu to school simply because they want to be a Vainglory professional gamer.
