Microsoft is reportedly going to unveil universal Xbox apps later this month. The company is expected to talk about these apps as well as its plans to open up the platform to third-party developers at the Build conference in San Francisco on March 30th. Xbox head Phil Spencer has already said that Microsoft will discuss its “next steps” with the Universal Windows Platform at the Build conference in a couple of weeks.
It was back at the Mobile World Congress last year that Microsoft showed off the first proper Windows 10 app on the Xbox One. Since then it has teased universal Xbox apps but hasn’t really said much about when we can expect them to land on the console.
Third-party developers are able to create Xbox One apps but they’re not universal which means they can’t be used across Windows 10-powered computers, phones and tablets. From the looks of it, it may not be long before this becomes possible.
At the Build conference, Microsoft is expected to talk about its plans to open up the Xbox store further, enabling developers to build more games and apps for the current-generation console.
Microsoft annual Build conference for this year takes place in the last week of March.
