The only upside is that the feature was opt-in. However according to reports, it seems that the new timeline has been enabled by default for all users meaning that if you had previously disabled it, logging into your Twitter account on your phone today might yield a very different look from what you have been used to.
We’re not sure why Twitter has decided to enable it by default, but thankfully it seems that you are still able to opt out of it. All users have to do is go to Settings, tap on Timeline, and then uncheck the option that says, “Show me the best Tweets first.” This should be applicable to both the iOS and Android version of the app.
Twitter isn’t alone in trying to shake things up. Just a couple of days ago, Instagram also announced that they will be introducing similar changes. Instagram’s argument is that users tend to miss an average of 70% of their feed through this current method, so by changing it to a more “relevant-first” feed, users will miss out on less.
