It was back in December last year that Telltale confirmed that it’s going to develop a new episodic Batman game which it will release in 2016. A few months after the announcement the company has released first details concerning its new Batman game at the SXSW festival. It confirmed that development has been moving along “swiftly” and that it’s going to show scenes from the game closer to its premiere later this year in the summer.
Telltale says that Batman is the perfect character for it to explore in a series as it gives the team an opportunity to dive into the mind of the man behind the mask.
Bruce Wayne ventures out every night to change Gotham for the better and the team wants to explore the consequences of the player’s actions when decisions made as Bruce have a critical impact on his crusades as the Batman, and vice versa. “Certain key situations will give the player the decision to approach a scene as Bruce or Batman, with consequences for both sides,” it says.
The company also confirmed that this is a fresh interpretation of the universe set in current times and that it’s not tied to any existing iteration of Batman in games, film or comics for that matter. The story is going to focus on Bruce and Batman, not on his sidekicks like Robin, Nightwing, etc. Series staples like Alfred, James Gordon, Vicki Vale and others will feature in the game while Telltale is keeping a lid on the villains until the premiere this summer.
