The tether-free Sulon Q makes it different from the likes of the Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, or HTC Vive, that is for sure. Underneath the chassis, one will find an AMD FX-8800P APU with eight integrated Radeon R7 graphics cores, an integrated 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, a 2560×1440 OLED display with a 110-degree field of view, and 3D spatial audio. In terms of connectivity, one would be able to enjoy 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, in addition to micro-HDMI out, and a couple of USB 3.0 Type A ports.
Touted to be “a powerful and lightweight all-in-one solution” that is able to deliver console-quality graphics, one should not get one’s hopes high that this is a heavy-duty VR gaming solution. The headset will still be able to draw on DirectX 12, Vulkan, and AMD’s LiquidVR technology to get that extra bit of kick in terms of performance, but tethered VR headsets would have far more graphical firepower to draw from.
Expect the Sulon Q to roll out later this Spring for an unknown amount just yet, so stay tuned!
