Unlike some of the other virtual reality headsets, Sony’s PlayStation VR only works with the company’s current-generation gaming console right now but that might change in the future. A company executive at hinted at the possibility of Sony bringing PlayStation VR to the PC. Sony is aware that there’s potential in opening up the virtual reality headset to one of the most widely used gaming platforms but it’s not committing to anything just yet.
Speaking to Nikkei, Sony Computer Entertainment’s senior vice president Masayasu Ito said that there’s potential for making PlayStation VR compatible with PCs, but pointed out that currently the company is focused on games and is not ready to many announcements regarding PC support at this stage.
Ito did not shy away from saying that there will be an expansion of PlayStation VR “into various fields,” and that’s as good a hint as any that Sony is open to the idea of making PlayStation VR work with PCs, but it remains to be soon how soon the company makes that happen.
Sony has already started taking pre-orders for the PlayStation VR launch bundle. Those who don’t want the bundle will be able to pre-order just the virtual reality headset only later this week.
