There are many companies that started out as a software company, like Facebook for example. The company was known for its social media website, and they still are, although in recent times the company has gotten into hardware when they acquired Oculus, who in turn designed the Oculus Rift which is set for a release this year.
Now it looks like Snapchat, who was once eyed by Facebook for acquisition, is thinking of doing something similar, or at least that’s what the rumors are saying. According to the rumors, word on the street has it that Snapchat is thinking about launching a new product, and that product is said to be a wearable device.
The reports claim that there might be two different devices in the works – one could be a pair of smartglasses, and the other a different kind of wearable, although we’re not sure what it could be. This is further corroborated by the company’s recent hires, some of which have had experience in the wearables industry.
There is also the time when Snapchat purchased a company called Vergence Labs, a start-up that makes smartglasses. Apparently the decision to start churning out hardware was fueled by the realization that the company’s messaging app has a limited life cycle, and that by expanding and diversifying, that is one way for the company to keep moving forward. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of the idea?
