Inbox by Gmail is a new email management app by Google that’s not being billed as a replacement for Gmail just yet, however, it’s a platform where Google gets to try out some new features for email management, and Inbox is already being used by millions of people across the globe. Late last year Inbox by Gmail received a very interesting feature called Smart Reply. It has been limited to the app since then but today Smart Reply is finally available on the web-based version of Inbox.
Smart Reply is a feature that’s exclusive to Inbox by Gmail, it’s not offered in the main Gmail app yet, and it’s unclear if this feature will ever be offered in that app.
The feature enables Inbox to automatically suggest responses for your emails. Inbox guesses which emails can easily be answered with a short reply and it automatically suggests a couple of answers which it thinks will be relevant in the reply. You can then decide on which one to send with just a single tap.
Smart Reply works the same way on Inbox by Gmail on the web. It suggests up to three responses based on the emails received and selecting an option starts a reply which you can easily edit or send with a single click.
This feature has been well received by users on mobile, Google says that 10 percent of all replies sent using Inbox by Gmail app are through Smart Reply, so it makes perfect sense to bring this feature over to the web version as well.
