Last January, Samsung launched their first Tizen-based smartphone in the form of the Samsung Z1. The handset itself is rather basic with nothing much to shout about, but its price makes it a relatively value-for-money purchase meant for emerging markets has seen it sell a fair number of units.
So much so that according to a report from SamMobile, it looks like Samsung could be working on a 2016 version of the phone with the model number SM-Z150. Unfortunately apart from the rumor that the handset could exist and its model number, the only other thing that SamMobile’s report claims is that the phone could sport an AMOLED display, similar to that of the Samsung Z3.
It’s interesting that Samsung could potentially be reusing the name, as opposed to launching a newer device, but perhaps given the success of the Samsung Z1, the company is hoping that by keeping the name, it won’t confuse customers and will be able to maintain the momentum created by its predecessor.
Last month it was reported that Samsung had another Tizen smartphone in the works. The device was spotted in Zauba’s database which showed its model number to be the SM-Z510. This has led to speculation that this could be the Samsung Z5, but perhaps Samsung has changed their mind and made it into the Samsung Z1 (2016), either way we’ll be keeping an eye out for it so check back with us later for the details.
