It was rumored in January that Samsung will introduce a phone upgrade program alongside the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The company formally unveiled its new flagship handsets about a week ago and it didn’t say anything about an upgrade program during the keynote. It has now revealed information about this phone upgrade program that will be available to customers who pick up the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge.
This is not surprising since Samsung was already expected to follow up with a phone upgrade program not unlike the one that Apple has for the iPhone. Customers have to lease the device for 24 months but they are eligible for an upgrade after 12 months. They simply send the old device in and get the new one without having any remaining payments on the old device to worry about.
That’s how Samsung has structured its phone upgrade program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge as well. The only caveat here is that this program is being launched in South Korea and Samsung hasn’t confirmed as yet if it’s going to roll out this program in other markets as well.
Samsung will offer the phone upgrade program through its stores only and the Samsung Digital Plaza in South Korea when the new handsets are released in South Korea on March 11. The program will not be available at carrier stores where most people in Korea pick up their smartphones from so this is one reason why customers will have to go to a Samsung store for the new handsets.
