Just a couple of days ago, we brought you word that an analyst has figured out that it might be in the best interest of BlackBerry if the organization were to focus solely on the software business if it were to remain profitable and relevant in the industry. Granted, there has been mention of an Android-powered entry level device from BlackBerry debuting this year, but so far it has amounted to nothing. New rumors dictate that there will be not one, but two Android-powered BlackBerry smartphones that are set to rock and roll later this year.
Of course, do take this rumor with a liberal dose of salt, never mind the fact that the source of the rumor claims that they have had pretty good and reliable contacts, and that the two Android-powered BlackBerry smartphones will be given the codenames “Hamburg” and ‘Rome”.
What would be different with these handsets that have been named after cities in Europe? For starters, Rome is touted to be the higher end model between the two, where it will be somewhat similar to the BlackBerry PRIV, as it comes with a touchscreen and hardware keyboard. As for the Hamburg, that is touted to be a mid-range device which will clearly lack the iconic BlackBerry keyboard, but rather, fully rely on a touchscreen. Regardless, we will just sit tight and wait for further developments from BlackBerry.
