As far as video game franchises are concerned, Resident Evil is probably up there as one of the most milked franchises. What started out as a video game has since resulted in more video games, movies (both live action and animated), a haunted house at Universal Studios, and we have even heard word that a TV series could be developed as well.
While that remains to be seen, it looks like we can soon expect another Resident Evil spin-off, except that this time the franchise will be turned into a musical. Dubbed Musical Resident Evil (no really, that’s the name), this musical will star Reon Yuzuki and will be directed by G2 who has handled other stage productions such as the Japanese version of My Fair Lady.
Capcom’s Hiroshi Kobayashi will also be overseeing the stage adaptation, presumably to ensure that it will be sticking to Resident Evil’s roots, or at least to make sure that the musical won’t hurt the franchise in any way by going too off-script. We’re not sure what the storyline will be or what we can expect from such a production.
However fans of the franchise who are curious and wouldn’t mind finding out can head on over to Tokyo in September which is when the musical is expected to debut and will run until October, before it heads on over to Osaka in November.
