If there is a downside to using laptops is that unless you’re willing to spend a lot of money, chances are the GPU packed inside the computer will either be an onboard solution, or it will be a lower-powered version compared to desktops. Now if you’re looking to take your laptop gaming to the next level, you will be pleased to learn that the Razer Core will begin shipping next month.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Razer Core, this is an external GPU enclosure that was launched at CES earlier this year. It plugs into computers via a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-3) connection and will play nicely with more than a few desktop-class GPUs, although there will be exceptions since there are some GPUs which are simply too big for the enclosure.
However Razer has posted a list of AMD and NVIDIA GPUs which are compatible with the enclosure, so check out the list if you’d rather not buy something that isn’t compatible. In addition to housing a GPU, the Core will also sport four USB 3.0 ports and users will also be able to plug extra monitors to the Core if a multi-monitor setup is something you might be interested in.
The Razer Core will also require a power supply so it needs to be plugged into the wall, but we suppose this isn’t a bad thing if you’re looking to do some gaming at home on your laptop. The Core is priced at $500 and is available for pre-order.
