There are probably tons of fans of Valve’s games such as Portal and Half-Life. Those two franchises are pretty amazing as far as games are concerned, but could they also be just as good, if not better, if turned into a movie? The good news is that you will be able to find out in the future, according to a report from IGN.
The folks at IGN recently sat down with director J.J. Abrams (who directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for those unfamiliar) and asked him for an update on his project with Valve. The bad news is that there is a good chance we won’t be seeing a Portal or Half-Life movie in the near future, but the good news is that they are in development.
According to Abrams, he was quoted as saying, “Not yet, but they’re in development. And we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update.” Based on this, it sounds like the story ideas for both titles are still being fleshed out, so the idea of it entering into production, casting, and filming is still quite far off.
However we suppose the fact that they are still being worked on does give us hope. It will be interesting to see how a director of his caliber will be able to take these games and turn them into successful movies, because let’s face it, many video games that have been made into movies have fallen flat on their faces.
