Many gamers are probably well aware of the fact that Final Fantasy XIV is pretty much on every platform save for the Microsoft Xbox One and the Nintendo Wii U. The game is playable on the PC, Mac computers, and Sony’s PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles. However recently Xbox boss Phil Spencer has stated that he would love to see the game arrive on the Xbox One.
Posting on Twitter, Spencer said that he would love to have Final Fantasy XIV arrive on the Xbox One platform. Prior to this and back in 2013, the game’s director Naoki Yoshida stated that one of the reasons why the game was missing was because the Xbox One platform did not allow for cross-platform play. This means that if you wanted to play on the Xbox One, you’d have less gamers to interact with, versus a cross-platform situation where you’d have more players to do missions and raids with.
Spencer’s recent comment was also a response to a recent Microsoft announcement in which Microsoft decided to allow cross-platform play, in which Xbox One gamers will soon be able to play games with other platform gamers, although the caveat here is that the other platform will have to participate in this feature, as opposed to it being enabled automatically. This means that not every multiplayer game will be supported.
In any case Spencer’s comments should not be taken to mean that Final Fantasy XIV will arrive on the Xbox One, but now that Microsoft has opened up cross-platform, here’s hoping that it will happen in the future!
