Time certainly does fly while you are having fun, doesn’t it? Periscope has just turned one, and it has been an exciting 12 months since its launch, having been acquired by Twitter to be a major plan of the future for the microblogging site. In fact, to get a better idea on the potential of Periscope, Twitter has announced that to date, 200 million broadcasts have been hosted already using the app.
Out of the 200 million broadcasts that were hosted within the app, 100 million of them were created within the past three months alone, now how about that for an explosive growth rate? Not only that, 110 years worth of live video is said to be viewed every single day across Periscope – regardless of whether it is Periscope on the iOS platform or the Periscope for Android app, which suggests a 91% increase compared to August last year.
These numbers are certainly impressive, but it can be rather tough to see how they go up against its competitors as there is nothing to compare them to, as its competitors have more or less remained silent on what their metrics are. Well, with Twitter integrating Periscope broadcasts into its timeline earlier this year, you can be sure that the Periscope train is not going to slow down anytime soon.
