Jeff Kaplan from the Overwatch development team took to the official PlayStation blog today to confirm that the Overwatch release date. He also mentioned a pre-order bonus for players who pick up the game before its release, those players will get early access to the beta for themselves and a free starting May 3rd to May 4th, prior to the open beta going live from May 5th until May 9th.
If you haven’t heard about this game before, Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer shooter featuring 21 dynamic heros. It takes place on a “near-future Earth,” and enables players to defy physics, bend time and use powerful tools and weapons to combat adversaries.
Teams will compete in six-on-six objective-based maps set across the virtual world so players can expect to do everything from protecting ancient temples in Egypt to escorting an EMP device through the heart of London. Switching heros on the go will enable players to effectively counter their opponents and get an advantage in the battle.
To ensure that players know just what to expect from the game, all 21 heros as well as all maps and game modes will be available in the open beta that goes live in the first week of May. Overwatch will be released for the PlayStation 4 on May 24th.
