When you look at movies these days, product placement happens to be a very real thing. In fact, we more or less see characters in movies make use of Apple computers and notebooks more than any other brands, regardless of what the character’s job is in the movie. Having said that, the Mac platform isn’t really all that suitable for gaming, which is one of the reasons that Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey shared that Oculus Rift support for the Mac was “up to Apple.”
In order to elaborate further, Luckey mentioned that it would be recommended if Apple could “prioritize higher-end GPUs.” In other words, if Apple comes up with a machine that is capable of handling the hardware, then it Oculus VR would not think twice or hesitate about providing Mac support.
Here is what Luckey said in full, “That is up to Apple and if they ever release a good computer we will do it. It just boils down to the fact that Apple doesn’t prioritize high-end GPUs. You can a buy $6,000 Mac Pro with the top of the line AMD FirePro D700s and it still doesn’t match our recommended spec. If they prioritize higher-end GPUs like they used to for awhile back in the day I think we’d love to support Mac. Right now there’s just not a single machine out there that supports it so even if we can support it on the software side there’s just no audience of people that can run the vast majority of software out there.”
The Oculus Rift is all set to ship out to PC users later this month.
