Netflix has made a habit of feeding on our nostalgia and reviving some fan-favorite shows as it looks to further increase its library of original content. I will forever be grateful as Netflix brought back Arrested Development and fans of the Voltron cartoon series will certainly appreciate that Netflix is bringing back Voltron. The company has released a trailer for this new series and also confirmed the release date.
Voltron was a popular mehanized cartoon franchise back in the 1980s so there are many people who wouldn’t mind getting some new episodes. Netflix will also be introducing an entirely new generation to this cartoon series and it will be hoping to capture their attention.
The original series told the story of five men and the princess of planet Arus who piloted lions to battle massive villains. The new show is going to have some modern elements and a more serialized storytelling but older fans would find a lot of similarities with the original series.
“We’re trying to keep as much of that classic feel to it as we can, because ultimately we have huge amounts of nostalgia for (the original) show,” says co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery.
Voltron: Legendary Defender is produced by DreamWorks Animation. The first 13 episodes will be released at once on Netflix come June 10th.
